the route

Starting just north of Montreux, Switzerland on the shore of Lake Geneva, the route follows 400km of bike tracks and roads to cross the spine of the alps via the St. Gotthard Pass and then descends to the shores of Lake Como in Italy.

The aim is to push 42km a day, a full marathon distance. The route follows EuroVelo routes through Switzerland joining Route 17 just north of Montreux and then along The Rhône River Valley until joining Route 5 at Hospental for the St. Gotthard Pass, before climbing down and finishing at Lake Como, Italy.

The big climbs

The Furka Pass and St. Gotthard Passes are the hardest part of the challenge and we are currently expecting these mountain passes to take around 1 to 2 days each.
